I adjusted each of these images in camera raw to bring out the blacks, increase the contrast, lighten faces and eyes and lightly adjust the color.  I shot wide open to get the best bokeh - and in many cases I zoomed to increase the effect and fill the frame with the subject.  I also added a light vignette on most of the images to make the subjects stand out.

Portrait Edits - Enhancements

Megan - Portrait Enhancements
Friday, February 4, 2011; 5pm; Rexburg, Idaho
f/4; 1/160; Canon EOS T2i; 70-200mm f/4L@200mm

On this image I used Adobe Bridge and Photoshop to add some light enhancements.  I smoothed out the skin a bit, lightened the eyes and lightened the hair.

Megan - Color Match Original
Friday, February 4, 2011; 5pm; Rexburg, Idaho
f/4; 1/160; Canon EOS T2i; 70-200mm f/4L@200mm

I wanted the color on this image to look the same as the previous image.  So I ran color match in Photoshop and this is what came out:

I then ran a color replacement in photoshop to select Devyn's sweater and replace to color.

The Snake River
Saturday, January 29, 2011; 5pm; Heise, Idaho
f/4; 1/160; Canon EOS T2i; 70-200mm f/4L@70mm

Here is the high-res version (may take longer to load)
I took these 8 pictures out at the Heise bridge over the snake river on the way to Kelly Canyon.  I then used photomerge in Photoshop to bring the images together. I used the clone tool to fix any mistakes, and then I lightly edited the image with levels.

I took these photos at a rail jam last week.  I opened the images to edit in camera raw through Adobe Bridge.  I then turned the temperature up on the colors, lowered the tint slightly, turned up the exposure to compensate for the white balance's effect on the snow, turned the blacks up to increase contrast, turned the brightness up and bumped up the clarity just a bit to make the details stand out.

I was making a promo video for this DJ, so I thought I'd get a few photos while I was at it.  On the first image, I added an adjustment layer.  I brought up the contrast and increased the intensity of the dark colors and shadows while lightly adjusting the highlights.  I then masked out the filter over most of his head, but I kept the filter on the left side to give more of a dramatic effect with the lighting.
On the second image, I converted the image for smart filters and then added the smart filter "glowing edges." This gave the image a Tron-esque feel. I then masked out the DJ so that his skin retained a normal look.

I used a medium telephoto lens on all these shots to get up close and make the details stand out.  I added adjustment layers to each of the images and adjusted the levels to give more contrast and brighten the highlights.  I also lightly adjusted the color balance the images to compensate for the various lighting conditions.

Edit: Blends and Type

Concrete Texture
Saturday, January 15, 2011; 10am; Rexburg, Idaho
f/4; 1/160; Canon EOS T2i; 17-40mm f/4L@40mm

I blended these two images together by using an overlay.  I adjusted the levels to give more of a contrast and used a mask to darken the edges of the image.  I lowered the opacity and used a mask on the texture to only show the texture on the trees and the sky.

Metal Texture
Saturday, January 15, 2011; 10am; Rexburg, Idaho
f/4; 1/160; Canon EOS T2i; 17-40mm f/4L@40mm

For this text effect, I adjusted the levels and the color balance to remove a bluish hue that the snow cast on the trains.  I then feathered the bottom of the texture and changed the opacity to place the text and texture on the image.
